Sierra Leone

A West African nation is a land of voodoo, devil’s, black magic, secret societies, diamonds and drug-crazy rebels. The most picturesque country. It’s hard to imagine anything bad happening.  In the midst of the story an election takes place for the first time in thirty years and the people will get the chance to vote for a democratic government. Sheltering the city are two large hills in the shape of lions. Named the Sierra Leone by Portuguese invaders, the rocks are prone to local superstition that claimed to hear the roar of the mountain lion as an omen of trouble. Sierra Leone is a magical country.  Blackmagic and superstition are ingrained in the culture. Its mineral resources deep in the ground and uncountable diamonds are on everyone’s mind and everyone mines for gold or precious stones in hope of hitting the jackpot! The roar of the mountain lion is heard in the story as The Devil’s Stone.

Of Note: Sierra Leone was a prominent slave trade depot for hundreds of years. It is from Sierra Leone that slaves were shipped to the America’s. Later, thanks to Wilbur Wilberforce, Freetown was set up as a refuge for returning slaves – hence the name Freetown.
